index_text_del1		="In 2007, 471 persons died and about 3800 were seriously injured in traffic accidents in Sweden (SRA). The fact that so many people died and were seriously injured, are, to a great extent, the result of shortcomings in the interaction between the main components of the road transport system – man, vehicle and road. These horrible figures show that road accidents are one of the largest public health problems. The most serious injuries occur during collisions between meeting or crossing vehicles and in single vehicle accidents against solid objects (e.g. poles, trees and rocks) beside the road. Even at legal speeds, such accidents can cause serious injuries or deaths.<BR>Car safety can be divided into active safety (road worthiness) and passive safety (crash worthiness). Active safety means the technical properties of the car that help avoid accidents, e.g. road holding, visibility and brake system. The passive safety systems of a car concern the components that protect passengers in case of a crash, e.g. seat belts, airbags or head restraints. There is a continuous development towards safer cars within both these areas.";
